Customer service is providing excellent assistance to guests and customers. India has been known for providing excellent customer service since centuries. The Sanskrit phrase of “Athithi Devo Bhava” has been embedded in Indians since the beginning.

Customer service is the journey which the customer experiences during a purchase or stay. If this customer experience is good then customers generally prefer coming back to the same brand/shop again which leads to a successful business. Customers believe in quality not only of the product but also about their experience. If the service provided is not satisfactory then the customer will think twice before using the same facility. This way a business can lose valuable customers.

People are used to doing a 360-degree review before considering a particular product. They not only see the product qualities but also recheck on the online reviews, other customers experience, the establishment set etc. so it is important for an organisation / company to ensure they focus on each and every aspect of their company.

In a globalized market, customer service also serves as a differentiator. With a lot of businesses offering same products or services, it’s the quality of service that often influences customers decisions. A positive experience can lead to customer retention, word-of-mouth marketing, and enhanced brand reputation.

Customer service can be divided into two parts.

In person customer service is generally noticed in hotels, restaurants, receptions in office etc. this requires the candidate to have a pleasing personality, good grooming, etiquettes, strong communication and problem-solving capacity as these candidates face to face interaction with customers it is very important to groom them accordingly. Most multinational companies are looking to hire people with strong customer service qualities.

The other type of customer service is when an employee doesn’t have in person interaction with the customer. This is seen in call centres or organizations where customers can be helped through remote access. Here organization wants employees with strong communication and remotely customer handling techniques. Most people feel handling customers remotely is easy however it is really challenging convincing the customer over a call. So having employees with strong communication skills will help organisations retain their loyal customers.
